Day Three brought with it an early shower, followed by light winds which filled in nicely for a 10am start on Day 3 of the 2011 Six Senses Phuket Raceweek. PRO Simon James decided two races were in order for most classes today, and to shake things up, made it a mix of short windward-leewards and longer passage races. Drop races now comes into play and the series results were expected to see some changes.

Into sequence and the wind was a steady 10 knots, building further as two rainstorms blew through the course, resulting in some great surfing for some and others opting for no spinnaker on the run to the line.

IRC Racing were off first on a windward-leeward and Jing Jing (Rick Pointon) led the class off the start with Team Premier (Neil Pryde) slow to react. Katsu (Ben Copley) and KukuKERchu (David Ross) were up there jostling for position as Team Premier started to make some speed and tack away from the fleet. Leading the fleet around the course Team Premier took line honours and handicap win from the rapidly improving Swan 42 Katsu in second and KukuKERchu in third. In the second race, Team Premier made it the daily double with line honours and another handicap win, with Jing Jing returning to form in second place, and Katsu third. Team Premier go into the final day with an almost unassailable lead from Katsu who has pulled herself up the scoreboard after some poor results on Day 1.

In IRC 2 the battle continued and podium places were much harder to come by as all boats were starting to raise their performances. In Race 1, Royal Thai Navy 4 (Cdr. Pornprom Sakultem) took line honours and the handicap win from series leader Piccolo (Mark Chapman) in second, with Team Sea Bees (Peter Dyer) third. In the second race, Piccolo return to the top with the handicap win. Ruby Tuesday (John Vause) returned to form with a second place from Team Sea Bees in third. Piccolo leads the series, but with a protest postponed from yesterday, things may yet change going into the final day.

IRC 3 is shaping up to be a very competitive class with Linda (Jim Kane) taking a first in Race 1 today from Remington (Jim Ellis) and Jhang Wa (Chris Edwards) in second and third respectively. In Race 2, places were swapped with Remington taking the win on corrected time from Linda and Dreamtime (Rob Azzopardi) in second and third respectively. Remington takes a two point lead into the final day.

The Firefly 850 Sport class remains close and will go into the final day with all to play for. In the strong winds of Race 1 today Twin Sharks (John Newnham) came to the fore and took the win from Voodoo (Ian Coulson/ Clarance Tayong) second and Team Land and Houses (Peter Dyer) in third. In Race 2, Team Land and Houses returned to the top with a win followed by Twin Sharks in second and Moto Inzi (Roger Kingdon) in third. Team Land and Houses take a one point lead over Voodoo into the final day.

In Multihull Racing, Sidewinder (Alan Carwardine) continued her winning streak with two more bullets today. DaVinci (Paul Larsen) finished with two seconds and Miss Saigon (David Liddell) two thirds. Heading into the final day, Sidewinder and DaVinci are tied on points.

The Classic Class enjoyed the scenery and positions were switched with Idiom (Mark Myking) taking first from Seraph (Khun Bao) in second.

Series results: IRC Racing: Team Premier (5), Katsu (13), Jing Jing (15)
IRC 2: Piccolo (7), Royal Thai Navy 4 (11), Team Sea Bees (13)
