Volvo Ocean Race update

But first in Phuket and the Ao Chalong Yacht Club (ACYC) in Phuket Thailand held it’s AGM last Friday, long serving committee member Grenville Fordham was farewelled, Scott Duncanson takes over from outgoing commodore Mick Kealy who takes up the position of vice commodore two new committee members, Clem Betzel and James Nichols bring new energy and ideas to the table.
ACYC now looks forward to the Annual Multihull Regatta held on the weekend of 9th-12th July and used by many as the warm up for Phuket Raceweek.
Volvo Ocean Race update
Dongfeng Race Team â€reported that they had crossed the equator at 0255UTC, 28th April and are currently in 3rd with just 2.7nm between the front three boats. Interesting times ahead.
While Team SCA tweeted they are fifth, just crossing back across the Equator this morning!
In this latest Volvo Ocean Race update the big question is when to put in the big tack as the Volvo Ocean Race sixth leg heads north to Newport, Rhode Island.
Meanwhile in Cowes, UK entries for the Royal Yacht Squadron’s Solent summer celebration of 200 years, the RYS International Bicentenary Regatta, have reached sixty and still counting, as entries continue to arrive by the day.
Four J-Class yachts, beautiful classics and grand-prix racers all sign up for the hotly anticipated event in Cowes, entries include the Frers designed 60ft day racer being guest helmed at the event by Sir Charles Dunstone. More on this event here
RORC Fastnet Race attracts another monster fleet, Royal Ocean Racing Club’s biennial Rolex Fastnet Race the world’s largest, most diverse fleet of offshore racing yachts will set sail from the Solent on 16 August. More on the Fastnet preview here

Are you ready to go Blue water sailing? Following the success of their first event last year, World Cruising Club will be running the Bluewater Open Boat weekend to help cruisers plan their ocean adventure.
It is primarily aimed at people ‘in the boat search phase of countdown to offshore cruising’.
